Once you've reduced the scope of your initial deliverable, it's time to see what's taking so long. Calculating Critical Paths can be tricky. For small, simple schedules look for the longest path through schedule. Once you've done this, examine tasks that make up the longest path and ask yourself: are they truly critical? Are the estimates accurate? Is the sequence truly mandatory? Meaning, can this work be completed by others in parallel? You should be able to find something that can reduce the critical path. The question is: should you do it?
